What is teledermatology?

Teledermatology means that dermatological concerns are captured digitally, transmitted and assessed or managed by dermatology professionals. It is based on structured medical information, suitable image data and a clearly defined digital process.

In dermatology practice, teledermatology can serve different purposes. It can support structured initial assessments, be used for referrals and be suitable for defined follow-up checks. This makes it possible to combine digital care and in-person care in a meaningful way.

Teledermatology does not replace an in-person consultation in every case. However, it can help accelerate processes, make more targeted use of resources and guide patients appropriately through the treatment pathway.
